Children & Family Ministries

Sunday School  - Look at Christian Education 

 

W.A.T.C.H. (Wednesday At The Church) - A FAMILY MEAL served 5:15-6:15 p.m. each Wednesday evening during the school year (cost $5.00 per person or $12.00 per family). Followed by adult Bible Study/Disciple Bible Study.

 Youth Ministries

Confirmation Class – Training for church membership for 7th-12th graders.

Youth Fellowship – 7th through 12th graders on Sundays. Middle School youth meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Steppe Inn, High School Youth meet at 6:00 p.m. at the Steppe Inn.

Youth Mission Work Trips – For 7th through 12th graders active in the youth ministries of the church; a summer trip to an impoverished area to do construction and remodeling work as Volunteers in Mission. Participants build not only buildings, but relationships with Christ and their fellow Christians.

Adult Ministries

M & M Investment Club – A group of adults who contribute $15-$25 each month to the church to develop personal investment skills while building a fund for special church projects. Meets in the Lounge on fourth Monday at 7:00 p.m. (Ed. Bldg., lower level, room 104)

Mission Work Trips – Past teams have gone to Chile to build an agricultural school, to East Bay Camp on Lake Bloomington for a day of preparing for summer church campers, and to Hull, IL to assist in the flood clean-up and rebuilding projects. More recent trips to Gulf Port, MS and Sager Brown Distribution Center also in MS. The Tri-M Sunday School Class recently traveled to Jensen Woods to cut firewood for 2006 campers 11 people from our congregation attended.

Mission Projects – This church works in cooperation with the Mid-West Distribution Center, located near Springfield, IL.  Our church has contributed everything from flood buckets, school kits, and sewing machines, to tons of rice and beans. Church members help out on work days at the Center, as well.

United Methodist Women (UMW) - Three active circles for personal growth in Christian Mission and Fellowship. Monthly meetings for each circle are as follows:

Ruth Circle               3rd  Tuesday            9:00 a.m.

Wesleyann Circle    3rd   Monday             7:00 p.m.

Hope Circle              2nd Thursday           7:00 p.m.

Music Ministries

Children's Choir Rehearsals during the Wednesday afternoon R.O.C.K. Program.

4th & 5th Grade Bell Choir— Rehearsals on Wednesdays 5:00 p.m.

Jr. High Bell Choir –  Rehearsals on Wednesdays 6:00 p.m. (Ed. Bldg., upper level, room 202).

Sr. High Bell Choir – Rehearsals on Wednesdays 6:30 p.m. (Ed. Bldg., upper level, room 202).

Handbell Choir – Adults and older (Ed. Bldg., upper level, room 202). Beginner and experienced ringers are welcome

Sanctuary Choir – Adults and older youth. Rehearsals Wednesday from 7:30-8:30 a.m. (Ed. Bldg., upper level, room 205). youth. Rehearsals Wednesday from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Praise Ensemble—Rehearsals Wednesday evenings at 8:30 p.m.

Community Ministries

Piatt County Ecumenical Food Pantry and Community Assistance Program– Housed in the Steppe Inn, (the two story brick house next to the west side of the church) churches from the Monticello Area Ministerial Alliance co-sponsor the pantry in collecting food, paper products, and money to assist families in need.

Senior Nutrition Program – Housed in the Steppe Inn, the Peace Meals program provides a hot, well balanced weekday lunch for senior residents of Piatt County at a low cost; meals for shut-ins are delivered to their homes by volunteers.

Habitat for Humanity – Having helped form a Piatt County Habitat Chapter, this congregation has been very involved in fund-raising for and construction of Habitat houses in Monticello, Bement, Deland, and Cerro Gordo.

Faith In Action – Volunteers are very involved with the Piatt County chapter of this award winning service organization.

 

Reaching Outward, Reaching Inward: Places to Serve

 

Thanks to everyone who offered to serve when called by the Nominations Committee.  There are always opportunities to serve creatively to fulfill the mission of MUMC. Let Pastor Mike know about your interest in specific areas, 762-2579.  Most groups will meet four times in 2009 to plan their ministries:

 

Education & Christian Growth – Christian educational opportunities for children, youth, and adults of all ages.  Beth Brown, Chairperson

 

Nurture & Christian Fellowship Fellowship activities that nurture the church like potlucks, meals, receptions, welcoming opportunities. WATCH meals. Kathy Von Qualen, Chairperson

 

Evangelism & Christian Witness – Welcoming visitors and nurturing newcomers, a booth for meeting the public at community celebrations, all-church small group studies, and guest speakers to lead us to a deeper relationship with Christ. Joanne Hodges, Chairperson

 

Outreach & Christian Service – Leading others to serve in mission and service locally and globally, Volunteer In Mission trips, missionary support, Piatt County Ecumenical Food Pantry, Firewood Ministry for Habitat for Humanity. Ann Wilson, Chairperson

 

Worship & Christian Celebration – Worship design for Sunday and special occasions, Worship Arts Committee (floral and candle design, etc.), bell choirs, sanctuary choir, children’s choirs, ensembles, ushers and greeters. Marty Maguet, Chairperson

 

Children & Families – Plan experiences that enhance Christian living for children and families. Sarah Ross, Chairperson

 

Caregivers – Caregivers matched with a homebound or nursing home member for visits and conversation.  Mitch Forrest, Chairperson. 

 

Health & Wholeness – Parish nurses offer monthly blood pressure monitoring, and educational materials to promote health of mind, body, and spirit. Lisa Guthrie, MS, APN, FNP, Chairperson

 

Nominations & Leadership – Matches person’s spiritual gifts and interests with church ministries. Pastor Mike Eischen, Chairperson

 

Memorial Committee – Identifies and promotes memorial gifts to enhance the church’s ministry. Margaret Lindsley, Chairperson

 

Communion Stewards ­– Prepare and serve Holy Communion usually the first Sunday of each month.  Candy Woodrum, Chairperson
