Meet Lisa Guthrie MS, APN, FNP-BC, Parish Nurse

Lisa graduated in May 2008, from the University of Illinois with a Masters Degree in Public Health Nursing and is now a certified Advanced Practice Nurse and a Family Nurse Practitioner. She works at Carle Clinic at the Monticello Branch.

Prior to completing her Masters degree, Lisa worked at Carle Hospital in the Emergency Department for almost 10 years. She is a trauma nurse specialist, a certified field nurse, a certified sexual assault nurse examiner (forensic nurse), and was a flight nurse in the helicopter for 5 years.

Lisa completed parish nurse training in 2006. Her duties as Monticello United Methodist Church Parish Nurse, include writing an article in the monthly newsletter, keeping the board informed about the Parish Nursing program and overseeing the monthly blood pressure screenings. Blood pressure screenings are provided following the 8:30 service on the fourth Sunday of the month and following the the 11:00 service on the third Sunday of the month. The blood pressure checks are taken in the library.

Other members of Lisa's health ministry team that assist with the screenings include: Harry Munster, Yvonne Howland, Betsy Wharton, and Chuck Morris.

As a parish nurse, Lisa can talk with people about their medications or answer any questions, but can not give any direct nursing care. Lisa has made a brochure about parish nursing. You can find it in the foyer in front of the church office. It is yellow.

The MUMC Parish Nurse program also offers "Vial of Life" packets for free, and has month long medication containers for people that need them. For anyone that is interested, Lisa will offer to fill your medication container with your medications and explain what each of the medications are for.
